Testimonials

"Dear Dr. Solomon and Rina,
You have brought me back from the brink of death too many times to count!!! I have been fortunate to have been the beneficiary of all your tremendous medical skills. I am seriously amazed by the profound sensitivity and compassion you both have shown me.

In my darkest hour at Memorial at about 10:00pm, I was so touched that you would take the time from your busy schedule to offer me guidance. I will never forget all that you have done for me.

Thank you again!!"

Dr. Gary Solomon Attending Expanding Horizons Symposium

December 7th, 2010

This coming January, Dr. Solomon will be attending the upcoming “Expanding Horizons Symposium” in Las Vegas, Nevada. This three day Symposium will be focusing on “the emerging landscape of aesthetic plastic surgery”.

Society of Plastic Surgeons

The Expanding Horizons Symposium will be an excellent opportunity for Dr. Solomon to see the latest innovations within the field of plastic surgery.  Unlike many of the unfiltered marketing ploys bombarding the public through the media today, this meeting will have the brightest minds in the field, presenting their latest techniques along with their clinical studies. Didactic presentations will feature extensive video-technique and provide extensive interaction through dedicated panel analysis and question and answer sessions.

Dr. Solomon looks forward to attending the Expanding Horizons Symposium where he will be able to interact with stellar faculty who will address topics such as facelift, eye rejuvenation, skin resurfacing and filling, fat grafting a well as body contouring and rhinoplasty. As a plastic surgeon, Dr. Solomon strives for optimal surgical outcomes. He strongly feels that the obligation of a Plastic Surgeon is not only honing in on his craft but also being open minded enough to embrace new techniques which might be superior to his previous ones. He however, feel that some new techniques, over time, might prove less effective than the previous older ones.  Through his many years of experience as a plastic surgeon, Dr. Solomon is able to critically evaluate all the latest techniques. He modifies his surgical approaches based on his understanding of suboptimal results.

Plastic Surgery Frequently Asked Questions

November 23rd, 2010

1)  When can I take a shower?

You can take a shower within 24 hours of most surgeries.  After liposuction procedures, you can shower after 48-72 hours.  Our rhinoplasty patients can bathe but they need to keep their face dry for a week.

2)  Will I have bandages?

For most procedures, bandages will be removed after 24 hours.
Our face lift patients do not have bandages.

3)  Can I get the stitches wet?

It is ok to get the stitches wet for most surgeries after 24 hours.  It is important however that you follow your post-operative instructions on how to clean the suture line following bathing.

4)  When can I have a glass of wine?

You will need to refrain from alcohol consumption until you are off your pain medications, after that time, it is ok to have a glass of wine.

5)  When can I exercise?

This really depends upon what surgery you are having. Usually, you will be able to exercise between 1 and 6 weeks following surgery.  Walking is always ok following your procedure.  For most surgeries, you can return to your pre-surgical exercise regimen after three weeks.  If you have had a tummy tuck, however, you will need to wait 6 weeks.

6)  When can I wear makeup?

After facial surgery, makeup can be worn 7 to 10 days following your procedure.

7)  How long will I be bruised?

If you do have bruising, that usually resolves within 1 to 2 weeks.

8)  When can I go swimming?

This again, depends upon what surgery you are having.  For the most part, you can swim after 3 weeks.  If you have had a tummy tuck, you will need to wait 6 weeks.

9)  When can I have relations after surgery?

If you are not having any discomfort from your surgery you can resume sexual relations. For the most part, this will be after three weeks except if you have had a tummy tuck, in which case it will be after 6 weeks.

10)  How long do I wait after my consultation to schedule my surgery?

Once you make the decision that you would like to schedule your surgery, you can do so right away. All you need to do is decide when you would like to have the procedure done and our office will work with you to get your surgery scheduled as close to your chosen date as possible.

11)  How much pain will I have after my surgery?

Most patients seem to experience less pain than they expect from their surgeries.  We give our patients pain medication that will help to keep them comfortable during their post-operative course.

12)  How long will my face lift last?

Environmental factors such as smoking and sun damage play a roll in reducing the longevity of a face lift.  In addition, genetic factors play a roll as well.  If you are a person who looks good for your stated age, then you will tend to look good for a longer period of time after a face lift.

If you take a pair of identical twins, one has a face lift and the other does not.  After ten years, the twin that had the procedure will continue to look better than her sister who did not have the procedure.

13)  Will the fat come back after liposuction?

Once fat is removed from an area, it does not come back.  Liposuction is not a weight reduction tool; rather, it is used as a contouring tool.  If, after your liposuction, you remain at your same weight, your liposuction will be permanent.  If, however, you gain weight- all bets are off.

14)  What is Juvederm and how long will a Juvederm injection last?

Juvederm is similar to other hyaluronic acid products such as Restyline. Hyaluronic acid is a component of normal skin. It is an injectible filler that is used to fill in wrinkles and hollows. It lasts on the average of 6 months to a year.

14)  What is Botox and how long does it last?

Botox is used to relax those muscles that cause frown lines.  An example would be the “coma” marks between the eyes that make a person look like they’re scowling.  An injection of botox can be effective for 3 to 5 months. It appears that if you routinely get your botox injections, they seem to last longer.

Choosing a Plastic Surgeon: What Do I Need to Know?

November 2nd, 2010

People have plastic surgery for many different reasons. Deciding to have plastic surgery can be life-changing. Before making your decision, however, it’s critical that you understand the industry, the procedures, and the surgeons performing the plastic surgery.

First you need to understand what qualifies an individual as being a plastic surgeon.

A plastic surgeon is a person who has completed medical school, a residency in a surgical discipline and then has done a residency in plastic surgery. He/she has then passed a written and an oral examination to become a board certified plastic surgeon which is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialists, eg: Plastic Surgery, Pediatrics, Radiology, Dermatology, etc. This board does not recognize the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery.

You need to do your homework to choose the best plastic surgeon in your area. Ask a lot of questions:

- Is the plastic surgeon a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, (ASPS)? If not, the surgeon may not be board certified. This is an immediate red flag because you can’t be sure of the surgeon’s true credentials and expertise.

- How much experience does the plastic surgeon have performing these types of procedures? At the very minimum, your plastic surgeon should have five years of surgical training and experience, with at least three of those years being dedicated to plastic surgery procedures.

- Where does the plastic surgeon operate? Many doctors who call themselves surgeons cannot actually perform operations in a hospital. They may be able to perform very minor surgery in their office, but you want your plastic surgeon to be able to operate in accredited medical facilities.

How Do I Know If Plastic Surgery is Right For Me?

One of the best things about plastic surgery is its ability to transform lives. Contrary to popular belief, plastic surgery is not just about enhancing physical beauty. From correcting birth defects to performing reconstructive surgery after an accident to slowing the aging process, people from all walks of life turn to plastic surgery to improve their quality of life.

There are many types of plastic surgery procedures available today, including:

* Body lifts
* Breast augmentation
* breast lifts
* Breast reductions
* Brow lifts
* Ear surgery
* Eyelid surgery
* Facelifts
* Laser peels
* Liposuction
* Nose reshaping
* Tummy tucks

Regardless of the procedure, the most important thing to remember when contemplating plastic surgery is that your surgeon is board certified and a member of ASPS. These facts alone ensure that you’re speaking with an experienced, professional, and accredited plastic surgeon that adheres to a strict code of ethics.
